I see that a new Lindisfarne biography is about to be published. I know nothing about it or the author, other than this - posted on the Lindisfarne Official Facebook page today.

Interesting! thanks for sharing Mick. What new insights will be revealed? I haven't  read anything on the band since Dave Ian Hill's "Fog on the Tyne" which I enjoyed a lot.

What I'd like to read about is what originally made them split up.  I've read that there were tensions in the band or artist differences but I've never really fully understood why when they were making it big they decided to go in two different directions.

Hello all and apologies for being late in putting in an appearance on here - it was on my list of things to do. I am the author, and it is being published hopefully in May, by Fonthill Media, who have also issued my books on Jeff Lynne/ELO, The Beatles, 'Pop Pickers and Music Vendors' (chapters on David Jacobs, Alan Freeman, John Peel, Tommy Vance and Roger Scott) and a couple of historical titles. Rod Clements and Ray Laidlaw very generously told me several things by e-mail which I had not found out anywhere else, and I have covered a few aspects which the book by Dave Ian Hill (which I enjoyed very much and found useful for much of the story) did not cover fully, like Ray Jackson's successful court case against EMI, and the Whigfield alleged plagiarism issue - as well as another inside take on the Gazza collaboration, and more recently the 'Maggie May' business which almost came to court but didn't. Two members of this forum also kindly contributed a number of images, some of which I had never seen before. I live in Devon, caught the group at their Tavistock Wharf gig in December (having seen other line-ups before in their heyday years ago - as far back as Barnstaple in July 1972), and had the pleasure of chatting to Rod and Steve Daggett after the gig.

I'm very much looking forward to reading your book when it comes out in May.  I visited the publisher's website and couldn't find anything on there.  Amazon have a basic page and are currently taking pre-orders with a price promise but it might help if pre-orders are channelled through the publisher as that will let them know of our interest.  I've read many things about what went on in the band and some of the reasons they went different ways but it would be great to see the definitive account.  I personally hated them letting Gazza lark around on 'fog on the Tyne' but can see both points of view with that decision.  Not wishing my life away but the book will be a nice birthday present in May.

Thanks Jim. Fonthill will be adding the book to their website soon - the Facebook page was very much an advance announcement. The editors were thrilled by the response, so thank you to all on here and all who posted.  I wasn't the biggest fan of the Gazza collaboration either (have never been a football lover, or of football records), but it's clear that three of the group were very enthusiastic about it - as you said, there were two points of view. I also had a couple more little 'exclusive' insights into why they split in 1973, and again in 2003/4. Your interest is much appreciated, so I hope it will help to make your birthday!

Proofs and index completed last week. The book will be going to print this week (beginning 3 April) for May publication.

Amazon are taking pre-orders for a release date of 11th May and they have a discounted price of £14.88 instead of £16.99.  My hints for this book, for my birthday have gone in already.

Update 18th April 2017.

After yet another prompt my wife finally placed the order for this book at the weekend with Amazon.  What's a boy got to do to get what he wants for his birthday?

Still its all good.

Another Update.  Just received an email from Amazon saying the delivery date has been pushed back a week.  Not a major problem as long as it does turn up.
