all fall down

Does anyone know what particular event inspired Alan to write All fall down, or was it a sequence of events, the words seem put out a strong hatred for the likes of planners and construction. Question
Waldo

This is only my opinion but I believe it was a comment on the career of T Dan Smith son of a miner who became "Mr Newcastle" he was the leading man involved with driving slum clearance and the building of "modern housing" in and around Newcastle. There were links to the infamous John Poulson and opinion has always been divided about his intentions. He is generally seen as the man creating the concrete jungle of the late 50s and early 60s. The TV programme "Our friends in the north" also worked around this topic.Only my opinion though

ALL FALL DOWN

Thanks waldo the lyrics of most of his songs tend to tell a story and i just wondered what it was all about. Alan

According to a programme on BBC Radio Newcastle around 1995
Ray And Alan were interviewed and Ray joked it was because they knocked down Alan's favourite bars.  Very Happy

And of course T Dan Smith was the inspiration behind 'Dan the Plan' from Alan's 'Squire' album.

True Mick. I had forgotten about Dan the plan. So does that support my theory, or is there another explanation? Of course the closing the bars thing could have been down to T Dan Smith as well? mind you they close all the time now Sad

I believe that the demolition of the most of old Eldon Square to make way for the Eldon Square shopping complex angered Alan considerably, this could have been the catslyst for the song

Hi fellas, just had an email from Ray, telling me that Alan was angered about the redevelopment of the old Eldon area and the city motorway projects, so much so that he joined the protest group SOCEM (save our city from environmental mess), he would often perform for this group at fund raising events, this was his inspiration for the lyrics for All fall down. Spot on Waldo and Brian.                        Alan.

Thanks Rattlebollocks and Ray (I am guessing Laidlaw?) for the clarification.
